What is Product Case Camp?

It's a program where product leaders come together in small, private groups for an hour each week to run through realistic business scenarios where you have to make difficult decisions based on incomplete information (i.e. case-based learning). The goal is to improve judgement and decision making, learn from peers in a safe environment, and expand our perspectives.

Who is this for?

Leaders from product management, engineering, and design may apply. Other backgrounds are accepted on a case-by-case basis. The cohorts are split into two separate levels:

  • Executive: experienced executives who want to continue to push their first-principles thinking with their peers
  • Director: senior talent seeking to make the transition to the executive suite.

Depending on demand, we may split cohorts based on startup vs scaling/at-scale interests.

Who runs the program?

Giff Constable (blog) leads the sessions. Giff ran product and engineering at companies like Meetup, Axial, and the Electric Sheep Company. He was the CEO of global innovation consulting company Neo (acquired by Pivotal). He is a professor at NYU's Stern School of Business, teaching product management, and is the author of acclaimed books on research and experiments: Talking to Humans and Testing with Humans.

Our goal is to deliver first-principles thinking, new perspectives, peer feedback and support, and the ability to practice in a safe environment.

What is the cost?

Case Camp charges a monthly subscription of $300 (options: pay-as-you-go, 3 months, 6 months). You won't be prompted to pay until you are accepted and assigned to a cohort. Your subscription allows you to join the live weekly sessions, receive session key takeaways, and have access to our Discord community.

What kind of topics are covered in the cases?

We examine issues around strategy, people management, organizational design, culture building, financial modeling, peer relationships, priotization, and more. In each case, you'll take the role of the product leader in the organizer (i.e. CPO/CTO). Here are a few examples:

  • You spent months interviewing with a high-growth SaaS business that appears to be heading towards an IPO. Yet when you arrive, the metrics have stalled and the CxO suite has different ideas on how to solve. What do you do?
  • One of your favorite director-level leaders just resigned. Neither you nor their direct manager saw this coming. What do you do about it?
  • You're not making the desired progress against one of the company goals. You're sensing diminishing returns but the team remains hopeful. Do you pull the plug?
  • Your growth team feels bullied by the new CMO, who is micro-managing specific changes. The team is getting resentful and the CMO is complaining to you. What do you do?

We work on serious topics, but that doesn't mean we have to take ourselves too seriously.

Referral program!

If you refer someone to the program and they join, you will get 1 month free, as long as they mark you down as the referrer in their application form. In other words, if you refer a dozen people and they all get in and join, you'll get a year of Case Camp for free.

Wait, you have more questions?

How big is each cohort?

Each cohort is no fewer than 6 and no more than 16 people.

Am I supposed to bring scenarios from work?

No, Giff Constable will be designing and running the case scenarios. The cases are based on real situations that he or others experienced, but adjusted to protect confidentiality and better fit a learning context.

When are the sessions?

Each cohort meets at the same time for an hour each week. When you apply, you designate the cohort times that will work for you. There will occasionally be up to an hour of pre-work outside of class.

Are there any rules I should know?

The sessions are intended to be private to the members of the cohort, and thus are not recorded. We also expect that participants act professionally towards each other and respect our code of conduct.

What if I subscribe and don't like it?

If you try the program and decide not to continue in the first month, you will be refunded. You can also cancel your subscription at any time (you remain a subscriber for the current month and will not be charged for the next month). Requests to switch cohorts can only be accomodated if there is availability. Refunds are not given merely for missing a session.
